Group courses and ensembles

Instrumentalists are encouraged to take a complementary course in addition to their individual lessons.

Ear training and sight-reading

We offer beginners group classes in basic musical knowledge as a complement to their instrumental studies. We require three years of “Formation Musicale” (levels A, B and C. Students then move on space to ensembles and performance classes such as chamber music, piano literature, flute choir, jazz ensembles or orchestra.

Advanced Musicianship for pianists

Advanced Musicianship for pianists is a class for students who have already had three years of “Formation Musicale”.

The goal of this class is to reinforce and develop basic musicianship: piano technique, introduction to and understanding of musical language, sight-reading, history of piano literature through listening to repertoire studied by fellow students.
At the end of the program, the student will have acquired important skills for his musical training: musical culture, ear training, performing in front of others, and a greater autonomy.

Piano Literature

The course includes sight-reading, four-hand and two-piano repertoire. Open to fourth year students by audition.

Flute Choir

Piccolo, C flute, alto flute and bass flute. Young students learn to listen and play together through a repertoire spanning from Renaissance to Modern music. Advanced students participate in “Tutti Flutti”, the award-winning touring flute band!

3×3 Class

For older beginners

When children approaching adolescence decide to study an instrument, it is generally not classical music that they are interested in. Our formula of three students for one hour brings them the satisfaction of playing together from the very first lesson! We insist however, that reading and a strong musical foundation are essential for every musician, even for future rock stars!

Small Ensembles

Open by audition to all instrumentalists having completed Formation Musicale C, this course is designed to study varied styles of music : Classics, Jazz-Blues, traditional and World music… through playing together !
The students discover the joy of performing in a small group by presenting a program at the end of each trimester.

Orchestra

For advanced string and wind players, this formation participates in classical concerts and festivals as well as the school’s annual musical-comedy production. Open to fourth year students by audition.

Chamber Music

Small ensembles open to advanced (fourth year) students by audition.

Jazz Ensembles

(min. 2 years of lessons)

Multi-instrumental formations teach ensemble playing and improvisation. Performing regularly in Parisian jazz clubs, these ensembles are formed according to the instrumental level of the students.

For the very young

Young children are naturally attracted to music, musical instruments and movement. Our programs allow children to experience music first-hand and discover the pleasure of playing an instrument long before they learn to read or write!

Music and Movement

(ages 3 to 5)

An introduction to music and all its forms, the course includes singing, dancing, playing instruments, and learning about musical notation through games and drawing. During the year visiting musicians allow the children the extraordinary opportunity of hearing and “trying” all the orchestral instruments. Musical “stories” develop listening and motor skills.

Discovery Group

(ages 5 – 6)

A yearlong course designed to allow each child to briefly study three types of instruments : keyboard, strings and winds. After one trimester each of piano, of flute and of strings, each child is more suitably equipped to choose their instrument for further serious study. Using the younger child’s natural ability to memorize songs and movements, (skills acquired in our «Music and Movement » courses), «Discovery Group» also includes the study of music basics in a « pre-school » setting through games, songs and other activities.

Mini Courses

in piano, cello, violin, flute and recorder (ages 6 - 7)

A weekly course designed to familiarize children with the instrument of their choice. These classes are an intermediary step between an essentially recreational activity and the serious study of an instrument.

Theater

Theater Workshop

1 to 2 hours/week (ages 6-8, 9-11 and 12-14)

Weekly courses focus on improvisation, movement, diction and self-confidence! Public performances are organized several times per year.ay we draw your attention to the fact that courses are not always taught in English.
The Koenig School may indeed present a wide Anglo-Saxon musical and cultural background yet it is not a language school.
