KOENIG CONSERVATORY:
40 YEARS OF MUSICAL INNOVATION & NEW HORIZONS

Musicianship Classes
Levels 1-4, ages 7 through 12
We’re transforming how children learn to read music - through playing and collaboration.
Backed by Joan Koenig’s research in music cognition and the success of our primary school program, our new Musicianship Classes are:
-
Instrument-oriented- learn by doing
-
Collaborative- make music together
-
Ear Opening- exploring myriad musical traditions
-
Motivational- driven by joy
Why does this matter? Too many children give up music before they’ve truly experienced its rewards. By opening more doors, we’re creating lasting pathways for every kind of learner.
Our goal is to reframe rigor through engaging, meaningful musical experiences. For incoming students, a placement test will allow us to choose the correct level for each child.
New Group Classes at Koenig Conservatory

Musical Theater
Step into the spotlight! At Koenig, we pioneered children's Musical Theater in France with our 1996 production of Peter Pan. Our weekly classes blend text interpretation, music, dance, and creative design elements. Students experience the complete artistic journey from rehearsal to spring performance in a public venue. This immersive program creates joyful adventures while building confidence and collaborative skills. No experience needed!

Drum Circle
Rooted in West African musical heritage, this class develops listening skills, rhythmic precision, synchronization, and creativity. Students master hand drumming techniques and complex rhythms while experiencing the joy of making music together. These highly energetic sessions develop coordination, focus and community spirit. Perfect for beginners or students looking to enhance their musical foundation through this engaging format.

Ukulele Band
Our Ukulele Band offers the perfect introduction to music with an instrument ideal for beginners. With just four strings, the ukulele is easy on little fingers and quick to master. Children learn to play the songs they love using simple chords, strumming patterns and rhythmic elements. As confidence grows, they explore singing, improvisation and even songwriting in a supportive setting. This adventure builds essential skills for future musical exploration.

Bilingual Choir
Our choir classes are, according to the children, their favorite activity of the week! Children love to sing, they love singing together, and they love to perform. Our choirs harness this joyful energy to develop musical literacy, vocal technique, listening skills, and concentration. The repertoire is carefully selected for engagement and enjoyment.

Bilingual Theater
Step onto our bilingual stage! Our Bilingual Theater program transforms students into playwrights and performers as they create original works across language boundaries. Through drama games, character building, and collaborative storytelling, young actors develop performance skills while naturally absorbing vocabulary in two languages. Our supportive environment culminates in showcases of student theatrical pieces. No second language fluency required.

Family Pack
Make music a family affair! Our Family Pack helps parents become active partners in their child's musical journey, regardless of musical background. The package includes five individual lessons with your child's teacher plus two informative workshops with practical guidance. These sessions provide valuable tools to support musical development at home. Lessons are conveniently scheduled around regular class times, ideally one per school period.
